United Airlines has decided that it is time to throw their hats into the woke ring and it’s getting pretty ridiculous. They condemned the new Georgia voter registration laws but then they turned around and did this! United is now getting rid of the normal hiring process and they are going to make all of their decisions based on color.
That’s right, your qualifications do not matter any longer. “Our flight deck should reflect the diverse group of people on board our planes every day. That’s why we plan for 50% of the 5,000 pilots we train in the next decade to be women or people of color,” said United in their official announcement.
When you visit their website and their Twitter page, they are doubling down on this. They want people to know that they are in the woke crowd now. Does it matter if they are going to severely dilute their talent pool by putting identity over skill level? Of course not. Biden will praise them for this and that’s all they are after really.
“Today, United has one of the most diverse pilot populations of any U.S. carrier with nearly 20% of our pilot group made up of women and people of color. We are working toward raising that number even higher by partnering with diversity-led organizations and continuing to remove gender and racial barriers. And we’re going one step further with plans for 50% of United Aviate Academy students being women and people of color to ensure our students reflect the diversity of the customers and communities we serve,” their website reads.
This is the type of thing that seems great until you take the time to think about it for more than a minute or two. These sorts of companies should definitely be working harder to diversify their staffs but at what cost? United Airlines may look like the woke heroes today but what happens when their new employees are simply not up to the task?
Those who have seen these types of initiatives in the past can attest to this. We believe that employees should be chosen on the basis of their qualifications and not their color of their skin. These are the decisions that cause many to wonder if these companies are looking for anything more than a momentary public relations boost.
We are going to be very interested to see if there any catches here that we are not being told about either. We have seen a certain cycle unfold on this stuff in the past. The world of social media rallies around these companies and praises them for making these very important decisions. They spend a few days basking in the glory before the real truth comes out.
Within a few months, applicants of color are going to be sharing about how this program is not all that it was cracked up to be. White liberals are the ones who are usually most impressed by these things. The communities that are supposedly being assisted are the ones who end up pointing out the hypocrisy that is taking place.

That’s the cruel irony behind these ideas. They are not designed to do much more than make some liberals feel like they are engaging in ethical consumption. Now, when people start to travel again more frequently, United Airlines can position themselves at the top of that heap. It’s corporate strategy disguised as community outreach and we are tired of watching people fall for it.
United customers who are looking to fly with the airline that has the best staff possible will choose to spend their money elsewhere. This is something that they are not considering at the moment but they probably need to be. The average American customer is not going to be impressed by something this hollow and superficial. What happens when people decide that they suddenly don’t identify as white anymore? This is something that they need to think about!
