President Joe Biden is apparently much too moderate for far-left activist Greta Thunberg. She recently lashed out at the president in an interview with The Washington Post saying that it was “strange” that people considered Biden to be a leader on climate issues.
The young activist is known for making rather extreme comments about the climate. She bashed Biden when she was asked if she was inspired by any of the world leaders.
When Biden was referenced, she said, “If you call him a leader — I mean, it’s strange that people think of Joe Biden as a leader for the climate when you see what his administration is doing.”
Thunberg, then, went on to say that the United States is expanding fossil fuel infrastructure. She asked why America was doing it and said that it should not fall on activists and teenagers who just want to go to school to raise awareness and inform people that the world is facing an emergency.
She said that people ask what activists like her want, what do they want politicians to do. She declared that first people have to actually understand what the emergency is. Thunberg said, “We are trying to find a solution to a crisis that we don’t understand. For example, in Sweden, we ignore — we don’t even count or include more than two-thirds of our actual emissions. How can we solve a crisis if we ignore more than two-thirds of it? So it’s all about the narrative. It’s all about, what are we actually trying to solve? Is it this emergency, or is it this emergency?”
This is not the first time Thunberg has gotten press for a highly charged remark. She is basically known for demanding that world leaders solve what she believes is a climate crisis. And she’s not afraid to use brutal honesty as one of her tactics, either.
She spoke a year ago at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and she told the crowd that our house is on fire. Thunberg said that she wanted people to panic. She said for the record that when your children tell you to panic, they are not telling you to keep doing things like before.
In a 2020 op-ed for The Guardian, Thunberg demanded that all companies, banks, institutions, and governments immediately stop all investments in fossil fuel exploration and extraction. She also wanted them to immediately stop fossil fuel subsidies and completely divest from fossil fuels. She declared that she did not want these things done by 2050, 2030, or even 2021, she wanted it done right now.
The activist warned politicians in 2019 that they would put their backs against the wall and they will have to do their job to protect the futures of people around the world. She also claimed in 2019 that fossil fuels were choking our life from us. And she said the climate crisis was a crisis of human rights, justice, and political will. Thunberg blamed the crisis on colonial, racist, and patriarchal systems of oppression. She vowed to dismantle them all and political leaders could no longer “shirk” their responsibilities.
When Thunberg spoke at the United Nations, she said that the world is coming to young people for hope, but they have stolen her dreams and her childhood with empty words. She thundered on that entire ecosystems were collapsing and mass extinction was beginning, and all people were talking about was money and fairytales of economic growth. She said that adults were failing young people but that they were starting to understand the betrayal.
She promised that the world was waking up and the eyes of future generations were watching. If politicians choose to fail the young, she said they would never forgive them and they would not let them get away with it. She vowed that a line was being drawn in the world and change was going to come, whether the leaders like it or not.
So I guess Biden better be watching out for Thunberg and her young army. At least she’s not alone in wondering why he’s considered a leader.
