It’s pretty much a given that when a new president takes office, some of the first things they do is to undo what the last holder of the Oval Office did, especially if that person was a member of the opposing party. This coming year is expected to be no different, at least in theory.
But because this election and the man who holds office currently is so controversial, it is likely that the push to destroy Trump’s legacy by instilling very different, if not nearly opposite, policies will be rather extreme.
This week, right on cue, assumed vice president-elect Kamala Harris and her soon to be boss, Joe Biden, announced a few more things the liberal duo plan to do within their first 100 days of office.
Number one is dealing with the immigration problem.
Now when I say problem, it’s not likely what you are thinking of. Since before President Trump was allowed in the White House, he made it known that there was a crisis going on not only at our southern border with Mexico but at all borders concerning immigration. And he planned to put a stop to it, if not a significant dent.
By now, I think most Americans would agree that he kept that promise. Not only did he begin construction of the massive wall that now marks the beginning of our country, but he effectively limited all immigration coming into the US.
But Kamala Harris just promised to undo all that.
No, she didn’t specifically mention the wall this time, but she did say she would rescind the travel ban currently in place, reinstate DACA, undo whatever else she feels is necessary.
While speaking to the National Immigrant Integration Conference this week, she said, “These last four years have been heartbreaking and difficult ones. Children have been separated from their families. Those fleeing persecution have been denied the ability to even apply for refuge.”
Harris went on to say that within her and Biden’s “first 100 days, we will send an immigration bill to Congress, reinstate DACA, repeal harmful and discriminatory policies like the Muslim ban. And during our administration, we will repeal indiscriminate enforcement policies that tear families apart and make us less safe.”
Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t all that she just said work to increase the threat to our safety?
Take what she calls the “Muslim ban,” for instance.
Firstly, it can’t be genuinely called a Muslim ban, as it has nothing to with Muslims or their religion. The ban, which President Trump put in place in 2017, instead has everything to do with limiting access to the United States to countries that are known to deal in or harbor terrorism or are simply too untrustworthy to offer admittance into our borders.
The ban initially included Iran, Chad, North Korea, Somalia, Yemen, Syria, Venezuela, and Libya. Since then, Chad has been erased from the ban list, and Myanmar, Sudan, Tanzania, Nigeria, Eritrea, and Kyrgyzstan have been added.
Note that not all of these nations have a Muslim majority.
Plus, the ban is not unnegotiable. In some cases, visitors from these nations are allowed to enter the US, but only under the strictest of occasions.
And, according to the number of terrorist incidents within the US in the last three years, I’d say the ban has served to keep our citizens safer, as fewer have happened in that time period than during either of the last two administrations.
Now, let’s talk about this accusation that Trump’s policies are pulling children away from their families.
Enter Harris’s beloved DACA or Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals. This law, enacted under Obama’s administration, says that children arriving in the US can stay here for their safety. Meanwhile, their parents are not.
What do you think that does? Separate children from their parents. Remember the pictures of children in cages? Even the smallest bit of research on those photos will you give a date when Obama was president.
Trump rescinded this to actually keep families together. And yet, he’s the one being called a monster.
Kamala and her dementia prone boss don’t seem to care what the facts are. Instead, all they want to do is appease the political left and undo whatever Trump has, whether it’s what is best for America or not.
