Most Democrats Don’t Want Biden on the Ticket in 2024

With Biden doing such a bang-up job as president at the moment, we have to start looking at 2024. It’s the first chance we will be able to get him out of office, especially if an impeachment after the 2022 midterms is unsuccessful.

A majority of Democrats do not want to see President Biden run again in 2024, according to a new poll by CNN. Because there is no clear frontrunner to take his place, this is causing some turmoil within the Democratic Party.

The CNN Poll was conducted by SSRS from January 10 through February 6 among a random national sample of 1,527 adults. It is the 2nd poll that CNN has conducted in the same way.

The survey found that 51% of Democrats and those who lean towards Democrats would like to see a different candidate than Biden runs in the next election. Those who would like to see Biden run again are his most committed backers in the Party.

Voters who are Republican or lean that way are just about evenly split between those who want Trump to run again and those who would prefer a different candidate.

This will make the next presidential primaries, which are almost two years away, tumultuous. It is extremely difficult to predict what the nomination process will look like. At this point, both sides of the aisle are divided over whether to rally behind the current leaders of their parties or raise new blood to take the helm as flag bearers.

This is unusual for a sitting president. In March of 2010, almost 8 out of 10 Democrat or Democrat-leaning voters wanted the party to renominate former President Barack Obama. And in March of 2018, 77% of Republican or Republican-leaning voters were rallying around the renomination of former President Donald Trump.

The reason that so many are not enthusiastic over the renomination of President Biden has to do with his electability. They just are not sure that he can win against a Republican candidate.

Less than 7 in 10 Black voters (69%) support Biden now. That is a big number because more than 9 in 10 (92%) voted for him in the 2020 election.

“I don’t think he has lived up to a lot of the campaign promises that he made, especially given the role of Black voters in helping him become the president of the United States,” Nekima Levy Armstrong, a civil rights attorney and activist who is also a former president of the Minneapolis chapter of the NAACP, said.

Others are concerned about the age of Biden since he will turn 82 in November of 2024. Democrats don’t want Biden on the ticket, but they don’t actually know who they want. The same is true about those who do not want former President Trump on the 2024 ticket. But there is one name that may be rising above the rest, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

A majority of Americans are looking forward to the next presidential election, but they are mostly Republicans.

Although there are not very many Democrats who have named an alternative to Biden, the people that are circulating are Senator Bernie Sanders, the independent from Vermont, former first lady Michelle Obama, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Believe it or not, there are even some who think that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York should be on the ticket. And another shocker is that some are advocating for media mogul Oprah Winfrey.

On the other side of the aisle, some of those who want someone other than former President Trump are talking about Donald Trump Jr. Others have mentioned names like UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Vice President Mike Pence. And still, others have mentioned Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, or Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

So at this point, the GOP needs to come up with someone who can beat Joe, Bernie, Michelle, Pete, or Kamala. That just should not be that difficult.
