It seems like too much stuff is happening this year, so you would be forgiven if you have already forgotten all about the McCloskey couple. These are the folks who wielded firearms as a means of protecting themselves during the riots. This couple simply wanted to protect their property, but they were treated like common criminals by the mainstream media.
The protesters were not charged with trespassing because the progressives who run the city were not willing to proceed. Their District Attorney, Kim Gardner, is doing everything that she can to make an example out of them. The couple’s attorney said that the indictment that they received was not surprising at all.
This is how the Democrats choose to run their cities. If someone gets into trouble on the left, everyone falls all over themselves to make sure they are not held accountable. Meanwhile, a couple that did not do anything wrong is being forced to do the perp-walk for the amusements of the leftists who bullied them into this.
It’s a sad state of affairs. Joel Schwartz, their attorney, is trying to let the world know that the grand jury does not have all of the facts, but these pleas are falling on deaf ears. This city wants to play judge, jury, and executioner for this couple. Does it matter to them that they do not have all of the necessary information? Of course not. It’s open season on conservatives these days.
“Once all the facts are out, it will be clear the McCloskeys committed no crime whatsoever,” says Schwartz. “Frankly because the grand jury is not an adversarial process and defense counsel are not allowed in there and I have no idea what was stated to the grand jury and what law was given to the grand jury.”
The charges of brandishing weaponry have been hanging over the couple for weeks now. Unfortunately, they are now going to be facing additional charges. They are alleged to have tampered with key evidence from their case. Schwartz says that the couple has been indicted on felony counts of unlawful use of a weapon and evidence tampering.
No additional details were provided. Meanwhile, the McCloskeys have already filed their own tampering complaint about Assistant Circuit Attorney Chris Hinckley. He is accused of manipulating the couples’ weaponry so that it could be fired. The protesters did not know this, but the gun had been altered.
The couple was not actually looking to hurt anyone. A spring had been placed in front of the firing pin, to keep the gun from being operable. We are not sure how the McCloskeys are the ones who are being charged with evidence tampering here. More evidence will be provided once we have been granted access to the information.
Right now, it seems like this city is trying its best to suppress any evidence that would make their case against this couple look any worse than it already does. The couple took the opportunity to speak at their latest hearing. They just want people to understand where they are coming from on this one. We can’t say that we blame them, to be honest.
“Every single human being that was in front of my house was a criminal trespasser,” said McCloskey. “They broke down our gate. They trespassed on our property. Not a single one of those people is now charged with anything. We’re charged with felonies that could cost us four years of our lives and our law licenses.”
This is a very serious matter, and the leftists are not willing to acknowledge the mistakes that are being made here. A couple that was only protecting their home should not be facing these types of charges. If you would like to hear more from the couple, be sure to check out the video of their raw, impassioned interview that was given on the courthouse steps.
