This is one of the more intriguing stories that we have come across in a long time. Major newspapers have started to notice the discontent that is taking place among Kamala Harris staff members. While we wish that the supporting quotes were a bit less vague, we are enjoying all of their inherent spiciness.
Is the office of Kamala Harris really all that abusive or is this just a case of staffers whining too much? That’s what we are trying to get to the bottom of right now. Tina Flournoy, her chief of staff, is actually the subject of much of the complaints. The griping about Harris herself seems to be a lot more muted.
Flournoy is a Democrat veteran who has been working behind the scenes for years and even used to manage Bill Clinton’s access. The problem for many is that she is overzealous. The people who have been looking to get Harris on the phone are unable to do so, causing a number of issues.
Flournoy is also known for being tough on her underlings, so that is probably contributing to the current testiness. Now, her defenders are claiming that the only reason she is singled out for any of this is because she is a black woman. However, it is hard to ignore that the Kamala Harris team is full of morale problems.
Stories like these keep on coming out and they are harder and harder to ignore. Politico has more about the recent issues:
“In interviews, 22 current and former vice presidential aides, administration officials and associates of Harris and Biden described a tense and at times dour office atmosphere. Aides and allies said Flournoy, in an apparent effort to protect Harris, has instead created an insular environment where ideas are ignored or met with harsh dismissals and decisions are dragged out. Often, they said, she refuses to take responsibility for delicate issues and blames staffers for the negative results that ensue.
While much of the ire is aimed at Harris’ chief, two administration officials said the VP herself also bears responsibility for the way her office is run. “It all starts at the top,” said one of the administration officials, who like others requested anonymity to be able to speak candidly about a sensitive matter.
“People are thrown under the bus from the very top, there are short fuses and it’s an abusive environment,” said another person with direct knowledge of how Harris’ office is run. “It’s not a healthy environment and people often feel mistreated. It’s not a place where people feel supported but a place where people feel treated like s**t.
The morale level for current Harris staffers is “rough” and in many ways similar to the failed presidential campaign and her Senate office, according to the former Senate aide, who is in touch with current Harris staffers.”
CNBC is also backing up this story in their own right, as they are supporting the claims about “several longtime political and business world allies” not being able to get Harris on the phone as easily as they once used to. Of course, there is always the chance that these people are holding onto sour feelings because their egos have been bruised. On the other hand, these whispers about Harris are only getting louder.
These are the types of stories that have been being told for the past few years. It’s easy to forget now after the past couple of years that we have been through but her presidential campaign went down in flames. We are going to leave you with what the New York Times offered up in late 2019:
“In one instance after another, Ms. Harris and her closest advisers made flawed decisions about which states to focus on, issues to emphasize and opponents to target, all the while refusing to make difficult personnel choices to impose order on an unwieldy campaign, according to more than 50 current and former campaign staff members and allies,” said the paper. The dam is going to break eventually, so stay tuned!
