Flights were canceled in the U.S. over the Christmas holiday weekend. It left many travelers stranded and apart from their family and friends. And this wasn’t with just one major airline. Nearly all of the airlines canceled flights.
Delta, United, and others canceled nearly 10% of their flights. Their reasoning? Most of it was due to staff shortages because people were out sick with the omicron variant of COVID. Only a small percentage had to do with things like extreme weather in pockets of the U.S.
If you think you’ve seen the end of flight cancellations, think again. It’s likely that there will be even more flights canceled through the New Year. But…why?
There have been pilots, flight attendants, and other airline employees calling in sick. They’ve had to quarantine due to exposure to COVID, they’ve suffered side effects from the vaccine booster, or they’ve even been sick with COVID.
Tweets can be seen at all times of the day and night as travelers take to social media to vent their frustrations. Flights are often canceled once people have already arrived at the airport, making it difficult to change plans with ease.
The surge of omicron is what is to blame – and United reported that “the nationwide spike in Omicron cases this week has had a direct impact on our flight crews and the people who run our operation.”
Well, Omicron isn’t going to go away just because Christmas is over. It means that you’ll want to expect further delays and cancellations all the way into the New Year.
Now, we have to point out the obvious. The FAA requires people to wear face masks, so those who are on the flights shouldn’t be getting COVID while flying. And, the vaccines are supposed to keep people safe from COVID.
With all of these precautions being taken, the flights are still being canceled because people are getting sick. It means that all of the precautions being pushed by Fauci and the rest of the Biden administration are for nothing. People will get sick regardless of what is being done. And, since social distancing doesn’t happen on planes anyway, it all seems like they’re making flying difficult for nothing.
Do you know what might happen as people call out sick, though? They’ll get COVID and, then, they’ll recover. They’ll have the antibodies needed to fight the countless other strains of COVID that are undoubtedly going to show up. People will develop natural immunity and won’t need to depend on masks to keep them safe or boosters to keep them protected.
Yet, the government still refuses to talk about natural immunity.
The flights being canceled by the thousands is proof that the government’s current plan is not working. And the airlines are exhausted. Delta said they have “exhausted all options and resources – including rerouting and substitutions of aircraft and crews to cover scheduled flying.”
Back when Trump was still the president, Dr. Fauci told everyone that masks weren’t necessary and that we just needed to get to herd immunity. Imagine if we had followed that advice all the way through 2020 and into 2021. We would be a lot stronger right now, we wouldn’t be forcing vaccines at everyone, and we would actually be able to book a flight without fear of it being canceled.
And let’s not forget to point out something else – Chinese airlines accounted for the highest number of cancellations. Yet, we’re still not supposed to blame them for releasing COVID into this world.
