Randi Weingarten and the American Federation of Teachers are rolling up their sleeves and getting ready to duke it out over critical race theory. They believe that it is their prerogative to teach critical race theory but they are also claiming that they do not teach it. So which is it?
To be fair, it is easy to understand why this is a virtuous point of view in their eyes. They probably believe that they are keeping states from being able to prevent them to teach students about slavery, segregation and the issues that arose during the civil rights movement.
However, this is the furthest thing from the truth. Their motive is not nearly as altruistic as they would like to claim. These teachers are merely playing a game of semantics. The critical race theory defenders believe that they are defending a particular vein of legal scholarship that does not even get taught in middle schools or high schools.
Critical race theory opponents think much differently, obviously. They are worried that children are going to be taught that white people are evil, America’s racism is too deeply embedded to improve upon and there are no solutions to any of these social ills. The National Education Association is the other major teachers union and they have established themselves as being pro-critical-race theory.
They were smart enough to quietly place it in the memory hole before conservative thinkers caught wind of it. In the meantime, we are left to wonder where we go from here. If we are being totally accurate here, we do not think that parents are all that worried about critical race theory. They are more concerned about the “anti-racist” teachings that have become so en vogue lately.

There is only one problem with that. They cannot declare this publicly. It is not the wisest thing in the world to position yourself in this way. Anyone who says that they are against the teachings associated with anti-racism is essentially calling themselves a proud racist. Since this is an insane thing to do under any circumstances, the conversation is only going to get more muddied as time goes on.
#CriticalRaceTheory is not taught in K-12 schools. The right’s culture warriors are labeling any discussion of race, racism or discrimination as such to try to make it toxic. They’re bullying teachers to try and keep them from teaching the truth. https://t.co/Plz2inkLke

Weingarten and her ilk do not want to budge from the true definition, so that they can continue to create a political problem that cannot be solved. “Critical Race Theory is not taught in elementary schools or middle schools or high schools. Culture warriors are bullying teachers and trying to stop us from teaching accurate history,” she said. Whether you agree with this assessment or not, the line has been drawn in the sand.

In case this was not clear, she continued to tweet about the topic. “#CriticalRaceTheory is not taught in K-12 schools. The right’s culture warriors are labeling any discussion of race, racism or discrimination as such to try to make it toxic. They’re bullying teachers to try and keep them from teaching the truth,” she continued.
On the other hand, Weingarten’s union was all over social media claiming that critical race theory absolutely had to be taught. Otherwise, children would never be able to receive a clear view of what really happens in American society. They cannot seem to decide whether critical race theory is something that should be taught in American schools or if it something that HAS to be taught. That’s a key distinction to make in these sorts of instances.
Ibram Kendi and the other culture warriors who are on the left side of the aisle cannot wait to dig in on this one. Instead of explaining the precipitous drop in the test scores of American children, they want to argue about this. The Delta variant looms over all of this. How can kids even learn about critical race theory if they are not in schools in the first place? The liberals are going to be campaigning to shut it all down!
